Expert Main Sewer Line Cleaning in Philadelphia, PA

Main sewer line cleaning removes the buildup and blockages that stop wastewater from leaving your home. At Drain State Plumbing & Drain Cleaning, we serve Philadelphia homeowners who deal with a specific set of challenges. Many properties in the city were built before 1960 and still have original clay or cast iron sewer laterals running beneath narrow yards and concrete patios. These older pipes collect tree root intrusion, grease, and mineral scale over time. Philadelphia's mature street trees send roots into clay pipe joints, and freeze-thaw soil movement widens those entry points each winter. When multiple drains slow down at once, or sewage odors rise from a basement floor drain, the blockage is almost always in the main line. We clear the full length of your sewer lateral using professional equipment sized for the pipe material and condition. If you notice gurgling toilets, water backing up into a tub, or soggy patches in your yard, call us before a partial blockage becomes a full backup.

Main Sewer Line Cleaning FAQ

Common questions about main sewer line cleaning in Philadelphia, PA.

Multiple slow drains, gurgling toilets, or sewage odors from a basement floor drain all point to a main line blockage in your Philadelphia home. Water backing up into a tub or shower when you flush a toilet is another clear sign.

Yes, tree root intrusion is the most common cause of main sewer line blockages in Philadelphia. Mature street trees send roots into clay pipe joints, and once inside, the roots catch grease and debris until the pipe is fully blocked.

Yes, main sewer line cleaning clears the primary pipe that carries waste from every fixture in your Philadelphia home to the city sewer. A standard drain cleaning only addresses one fixture's branch line.

Professional cleaning equipment is selected based on your pipe material and condition, including the clay and cast iron laterals common in older Philadelphia row homes. A camera inspection can confirm what is inside before any work begins.

A camera inspection is not always required, but it helps identify the exact cause and location of the blockage in your Philadelphia sewer line. It also shows whether root intrusion or pipe damage needs to be addressed beyond the cleaning itself.

A partial blockage in a Philadelphia home can progress to a full sewer backup, forcing sewage into your basement or lower-level drains. Catching the problem early through professional cleaning reduces the risk of water damage and unsanitary conditions.

In these days I appreciate a company that answers the phone and communicates when they're running behind schedule for an appt. George came out, assessed what needed to be done, reasonable price agreed upon, and returned same day with his team to repair two gas fuel line leaks. They put in the extra time to get it done properly, so my gas could be turned back on by PGW. Continued blessings. Thank you

This is the 2nd time i've hired them and I couldn't be happier. Both times for major issues. They are polite, respectful and do a wonderful job. I couldn't be happier. I will continue to hire them for all my plumbing issues.

Hello ๐Ÿ‘‹๐Ÿผ George and his partner were amazing. I'm a realtor and needed a plumber asap in Roxborough and the George was awesome and came out the following day. What was great about their service was that he was able to pin point what the issue was as soon as told him the area of leaking. His partner went upstairs as we went thru the basement to check the drain. They were able to identify the leak upstairs without opening up the ceiling and having another plumber say they had fixed the leak. They knew exactly what they were doing and truthfully very impressed with the attention to detail. I've been in the business for 7 years and haven't had a go to plumber, that will change today. I will be calling George! Thank you!!

Drain State was very professional and fast. Over the weekend my water heater broke and was leaking. I called Monday evening and they were able to replace my water heater that night.
